Calling all WELSH EX-PATS

by taichi @ 2005-08-08 - 14:26:30

Hi another great sunny day in South Wales,
(dont laugh, honest its sunny!). Would have been a great walking day but just got to much to do what with the looming house move and everything. So you ask yourself why on earth did he title this 'Calling all WELSH EX-PATs' its because having relatives in the USA, Australia and Germany I have discovered a great way for us all to make free calls to each other. Its also possible for us to call any landline number in the uk for 1p from anywhere in the world. The secret of the free calls is VOIP to VOIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol to give it its full name. My sister in Canberra has never been so happy lol. She has two teenage daughters who monopolise the phone and Sis was pulling her hair out trying to use the house phone. Reminds me of dad,s speech at her wedding, 'In order for Karen to be at todays cerimony it was necessary to have my phone surgically removed from her ear I,m not so much losing a daughter as gaining a phone line'. Needles to say that caused a burst of laughter that poor Karen may never live down. have'nt seen them for ages and it doesnt look like I for a good while yet. My Son is in the RAF and posted abroad, so we keep in touch via this method and it suits everyone, we even get free conference calls going between different locations. Oh sorry here,s me rattling on about the family when what i wanted to share with everyone was the great service i found.
Ok the name of the company is Fortune and the service they supply me is a VOIP box which i can either link to my PC (dont need a PC to use this) and a package which is cheap cheap cheap. I pay a small monthly fee for the service and get free voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting ,divert and effectively a virtual second phone line without having to pay the line rental. I even get a second number which i can choose any uk dailing code for. The ability to choose which provider I use at any time to ensure the cheapest and best service.
OK enough chatter my finger tips are killing me, here,s the links. Take a look I think this is Brilliant.

Here,s the Free calls, link. http://www.smallpackagesco.co.uk/

Here,s the best WELSH site that i have ever seen, this one will blow you away. Take a look at the Cardiff Map its amazing.

Oh yeah, you dont have to be Welsh this is available to anyone, you can even do this UK to UK and take it abroad on holiday and make free calls home. Thats a brilliant bonus.

Another day in the life of

Well Pen y Fan was very wet indeed today. I arrived at the Storey Arms carpark at 9am in slight drizzle and an overcast sky. Not many cars today which means that with any luck I would have the walk to myself. The weather decided to be kind for the first 20 minutes as I steadily walked past the side of the wood and up the pathway. Slippery underfoot and very muddy (just how i like it) the path was as I had predicted devoid of fellow walkers. It takes about an hour to climb to the top of the ridge which is reached rather like a T junction. To the left the path to the summit of Pen y Fan and right the path takes you along a wide ridge which stretches out before you in a semi circular ark to the right. Today was a good chance to do 'the triple'. Pen y Fan, Corn Ddu and The Crybyn. Three summits with steep decents and climbs along stone strewn paths. My daysack has a standard packing list for these walking days and consists of the following.
Change of clothing
Breathable outer layer waterproofs
Lunch (plus 3 energy bars)
Coffee
WATER
Spare gloves & Hat
Map & Compass
Mobile phone
Wistle
torch

I also carry a small tub of cream incase of chaffing which can make a days walking very uncomfortable indeed. The product I have found to be best for this is SUDACREME a waterproof cream which is easy to apply.
Back to work tomorrow so glad I made the most of today. If your a walker and love the mountains and hills it would be good to hear from you.
Until next time

A day in the life off

I live in Newport South Wales UK and suppose I’m just an ordinary guy with all the trials and tribulations that life brings. So this is my blog my change to rant and pour my soul out for the world to see. Cardiff if the nearest large town and I often spend an afternoon walking around the shops and castle grounds. There are good coffee shops where you can sit and watch the world go by. My main hobby is Hill walking and the Brecon Beacons can be reached by car within an hour. Pen y Fan the highest peak in South Wales is one of my favourite walks and can be used as a start to the high ridges and peaks to extend into a great days walking. Other areas worthy of a walking holiday are Snowdon and the Lake District. My other hobby is Taichi. I have been practicing Taichi for 15 years and Instructing for the past 9. I run a class in a central Leisure Club and have a growing membership.
Life’s good and I really enjoy the pastimes that keep me both fit and happy. I enjoy music of all kinds and have a healthy love of red wine and the occasional brandy. I believe that in order to be happy its necessary to indulge in the pleasures of life without overindulgence.
Loves.
Mountain walking
Taichi & meditation
Good hotels
Good food
Healthy living

Hates
Politics
Gooseberries
Sterilised milk
Queuing
Drunks
Kids using the phone
Ironing

Don’t you just hate the way your body changes as you get older, and children are oblivious of the impact their habits can play on your nerves. When every little problem becomes a major disaster to them and the disasters that blight our lives are deemed to be trivial compared to the pimple and owning the wrong mobile phone.
Weather here in Wales in pretty bad at the moment, not much chance of walking and staying dry so if I can remember where I left the waterproofs I may yet get to Brecon tomorrow. Hope this didn’t send you to sleep, it’s a start and I hoe that like minded people will read and support this blog.
Until my next instalment.
